Baltimore — Donte Lynch was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a consecutive five years suspended and five years of probation after being convicted of assault and reckless endangerment of his child’s mother. Assistant State’s Attorney Mimi Zhuravitsky prosecuted the case.
On March 6, 2017, Baltimore Police responded to the 3200 block of Massachusetts Avenue. At the scene, officers found a woman bleeding from the head and blood all over her hands. However, when her boyfriend —Lynch — showed up, she would not talk to the police and began to cry.
Lynch told police they had an argument. Officers asked the pair to separate for the evening, but police watched both of them re-enter the victim’s home together. Police begrudgingly left the scene but later returned to a second call at the same location just about an hour later. They arrived to find fresh blood on the ground and throughout the yard. The victim — who police saw earlier bleeding from the head— told police that she jumped out of the window to get away from Lynch.
Police found a bloody knife on the kitchen table of the residence where the disturbance took place and a broken mop on the floor. Blood was found all around the house.
The victim was taken to Shock Trauma, where she was treated for a broken foot and multiple bruises and lacerations all over her body.
“Intimate partner violence is one of the most dangerous crimes because it involves matters of the heart and often times manipulation of the mind,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I’m thankful that this brave survivor was able to escape what was clearly a life-threatening situation. I pray that justice and a considerable amount of time away from her abuser will be enough to heal her emotional and physical wounds.”
