“Because a victim of domestic violence was brave enough to speak up and come forward, we were able to take an illegal gun off the street and prevent dangerous crimes from being committed,” said NYPD Police Officer Decagna.

On January 15, a victim of domestic violence walked into the 5 Precinct to report an incident of abuse. The woman informed Police Officers Decagna and Logan that her boyfriend had struck her several times before threatening her with a firearm. Fearing for her life, she fled her residence and immediately went to the precinct.

The officers ensured the woman’s safety and began documenting her account of what happened.

With this information and further intelligence gathered, Police Officers Decagna and Logan collaborated with 5 Precinct Field Intelligence Officers to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s residence.

Five days later, the officers strategically entered the location and carried out the warrant without incident. The subsequent search resulted in the male being arrested and the recovery of the following:

A 9 mm semi-automatic firearm with 4 rounds
Mushrooms
Hash
Marijuana
Ecstasy
$24,066
