Police Search For Escaped Prisoner in NYC

NEW YORK — The NYPD is actively searching for a prisoner who escaped custody in lower Manhattan.

Police were calling for a level one mobilization to search for the suspect. He reportedly ran into the subway station and jumped onto the tracks with handcuffs on.

The suspect, identified at Magsayo Cruz, 20, fled near West Broadway and Franklin Street. He is wearing a black leather jacket and jeans with holes in them.

According to NBC-NY, he was arrested for shoplifting at a Gap store; he was being brought into the 1st Precinct stationhouse when he ran down into the nearby subway station.
