NEW ORLEANS — A 17-year-old from Orleans Parish in Louisiana has died from COVID-19, according to the state’s health department.

The department listed the age of the victim but did not say if he or she had any underlying conditions. It is the first death reported in Louisiana under the age of 36.

“But it does illustrate the point that everyone is at risk,” said  Governor John Bel Edwards. “Some percentage, regardless of age and their health, … are at risk of having serious, severe complications. That includes deaths.”

As of noon on March 26, the Department reported 510 additional cases since yesterday, bringing the total to 2,305 positive cases.
