FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Matthew Snell is facing an additional felony charge of taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial relationship after a second teen victim was identified. He remains held without bond.

Snell, 31, of Maryland, was arrested in October in El Paso, Texas, after he attempted to leave the country. Snell, a Thoreau Middle School teacher, already faced charges of carnal knowledge of a child and taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in custodial relationship.

At least one of the sex acts occurred at the school, documents say.

Parents found inappropriate text messages from the man to the teen and drove to the school.

The parent told the assistant principal about the texts, and the employee confronted Snell, who fled.

Several of the teacher’s text messages sent to the victim expressed jealousy over the boy’s girlfriend.

“You chose her over me.”

“We gotta chill in class”

“I’m tired of being ignored.”

Documents say Snell also bought the victim gifts like e-cigarettes.

“Those are for you dude, only you.” “They are too expensive for other kids, but I don’t mind getting them for you.”

He attempted to flee the country as arrest warrants were authorized and obtained.

He was tracked to the El Paso International Airport where he was taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service.

Detectives are seeking anyone who has information or may have had inappropriate contact with Snell to call police.
