A near-miss collision occurred at JFK Airport on Friday when one plane crossed onto a runway as another plane was preparing for takeoff, according to officials.

At around 8:45 p.m., crew members observed an American Airlines jetliner crossing onto the runway from an adjacent taxiway as a Delta Air Lines plane was about to take off. The Delta pilots quickly applied the brakes and were able to stop the plane carrying over 150 people just 1,000 feet away from the American Airlines aircraft.

Takeoff was subsequently aborted by air traffic controllers after they noticed the other aircraft crossing the runway in front of the departing plane. No one was injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the incident.
