FATAL GUN-BATTLE: CHP Officer, Suspect Shot & Killed, 2 Officers Wounded

RIVERSIDE, CA – A CHP officer conducting a traffic stop ended up dead after the driver pulled out an assault rifle and began firing.

It happened at around 5:35PM. in the area of Box Springs Boulevard and Eastridge Avenue, just west of the 215 Freeway.

According to Riverside Police Department Officer Ryan Railsback, the shooting stemmed from a traffic stop initiated by a CHP officer.

Multiple CHP officers responded to calls for assistance and also came under fire. Two were seriously injured.

One of the wounded officers was airlifted from the scene, and the other two were transported by ambulance. The CHP later announced that one of the officers had died.
