Redding, CALIF. (RPD / News Release) – On March 8th, 2023, Redding Police were contacted by a concerned wife after she located a covert video recording device in the guest bathroom of her residence. The wife confronted her husband, Ryan Rovito, 34 years of Redding, and questioned him about the camera. Mr. Rovito admitted knowledge of the camera but vowed to remove and discard it. The wife seized the camera and hard drive it had been connected to before Mr. Rovito destroyed it and subsequently contacted the Redding Police Department, fearing Mr. Rovito had nefariously recorded their young children using the bathroom.

Redding Police Detectives obtained a search warrant for the electronics, and High-Tech Crimes Detectives performed a preliminary forensic analysis of the items. The investigation resulted in the discovery of more than 900 images of child pornography and multiple videos from the covert bathroom camera. The videos showed children and adults using the bathroom who did not appear to know they were being recorded.

Detectives sought and obtained an Arrest Warrant for Mr. Ravito from a Shasta County Superior Court Magistrate. Mr. Ravito was contacted during a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Buenaventura Blvd. and Placer Street and arrested. Mr. Ravito was booked at the Shasta County Jail for charges related to the possession of child pornography and the surreptitious recording of an identifiable person who was undressed.
