Los Angeles — A retired LAPD sergeant was charged today for an alleged domestic violence incident with his husband at their West Hollywood home, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Jessica Kronstadt said Mitchell Gareth Grobeson, 57, faces one felony count each of assault with a firearm and criminal threats.

Case number SA092403 includes the allegation that Grobeson personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a handgun, during the commission of the crime.

Arraignment is scheduled this afternoon in Department W30 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Following a domestic dispute on March 4, the defendant is accused of pointing a handgun at his spouse to force him to leave their home, the prosecutor said. The victim contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to seek help in gathering some of his belongings from the home, the prosecutor added.

When deputies arrived, the defendant allegedly barricaded himself inside of the house for approximately three hours before surrendering.

The prosecutor will ask that bail be set at $100,000 and for a criminal protective order.

If Grobeson is convicted as charged he faces a possible maximum penalty of 14 years in state prison.
