Florida Teen Fatally Shot Sister at Kitchen Table, Police Say

GUYMON, Oklahoma -- Saturday evening, the Texas County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assist with a homicide investigation near Guymon. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a man stating he had shot another man in his driveway. e.

Daniel Cortez-Reyez, 19, of Sarasota, has been charged with Manslaughter after an accidental shooting led to the death of his sister on Sunday afternoon. On July 30, 2017 at approximately 4:45 p.m., Sarasota Police Officers were dispatched to Sarasota Memorial Hospital reference a patient who had been brought in with a gunshot wound.

Officers arrived on scene and determined the possible location for the shooting was a residence in the 2000 block of Arlington Street, Sarasota. All parties involved in the shooting were identified, interviewed and there was no danger to the public.

The victim, Leticia Reyes, 20, of Sarasota, was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries. Officers believe, at this time, the shooting was accidental. The investigation revealed Reyes was home with family members sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner.

Her brother, Cortez-Reyez, 19, told Officers he pulled out a semi-automatic handgun. He also told Officers he pulled the magazine out of the firearm, inserted the magazine and the firearm discharged. A single round struck Reyes.

Cortez-Reyez is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
