CLAYCOMO, Mo. — The employees of the Ford Assembly Plant in Kansas City were ordered to evacuate the facility on Tuesday night as the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a threat.
Around 5:20 p.m., Ford’s safety and risk management team received a call from an individual claiming to be armed with explosives, a rifle, and a handgun. The person stated that they had barricaded themselves in the second-floor bathroom located in the paint area of the plant.
“The man who called said he was an employee and was disgruntled,” the sheriff’s office told WDAF. “He gave a name that is not an actual employee of the paint area. He did name his supervisor, and that was the correct name. We have not been able to make contact with him since that time. We pinged his phone and believe the phone number that he use may be spoofed.”
Ford halted all production and evacuated the entire plant. The night shift production has been canceled as well.
The section of the 69 Highway in front of the Ford plant has been closed, and the public is advised to avoid the area. As of now, there have been no reported injuries.
