Fugitive Suspect in Torture, Killing of Estranged Wife Returned to L.A. From El Salvador

LOS ANGELES — A man charged with torturing and stabbing his estranged wife nine years ago is scheduled in court today after being extradited from El Salvador.

Napoleon Eduardo Castro, akas Juan Flores, Luis Sánchez, “Trouble” and “Napo,” 43, of Pacoima faces one felony count each of murder and torture.

Deputy District Attorney Ani Bailey said the charges include special circumstance allegations of murder involving the infliction of torture and by means of lying in wait and a special allegation of using a knife as a deadly and dangerous weapon.

Castro allegedly ambushed Olga Martinez, 30, and stabbed her to death in her garage on May 1, 2010, the prosecutor said. Castro fled to El Salvador and was extradited on Feb. 14.

Castro is being held with no bail. He faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged.
