On March 16, 2018, at approximately 12:56 pm, officers responded to the 2800 block of Hillen Road in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, they located the victim, Charles Tate, lying on the sidewalk suffering from nine gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

During their investigation, Baltimore Police Department detectives uncovered several .9mm shell casings at the scene. Video footage from a nearby church also showed the gunman, later identified by witnesses as the defendant, Larry Harriston, walk up an alley behind the church. The victim and a friend were seated on the steps of the church. Harrison then exited the alley and began shooting at the victim and his friend. The victim ran only a few feet before he collapsed and died.

“I am pleased this defendant has been held fully accountable for this callous attack and murder in broad daylight,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “This conviction should send a clear message that those who resort to senseless violence will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Sentencing for Harriston is scheduled for April 1, 2019.
