COLORADO — The Denver Zoo evacuated and shut down Tuesday for what zoo officials are calling a credible security threat.
“We’ve had a credible security threat and the Zoo is closed immediately,” the business said on social media. “The safety of our guests, staff and animals is our top priority and we are taking the necessary precautions.”
The Denver Police Department released the following statement, saying the threat was not confirmed credible: “Denver Police are investigating a threat to the Denver Zoo that has not been deemed to be credible at this time. The zoo has been evacuated and people/motorists are encouraged to avoid the area. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

Hearing “evacuate the zoo now” just is a great thing to hear over a walkie @DenverZoo maybe could have been done a little more calmly to not freak out everyone.

Dozens of people were at the zoo at the time of the evacuation. Witnesses say a message came over the loud speaker telling patrons, “evacuate the zoo now–evacuate the zoo now.”
No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing.
