JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. — Interstate 10 was shut down in both directions near the Pascagoula exit Wednesday morning as police were in a standoff with a truck driver who is reportedly armed with a machete.
The 18-wheeler was on the side of the road and officers were attempting to talk the suspect out of the truck. Several agencies were on scene, including a SWAT team.
Local media reports members of the SWAT team have shot at least two tires on the truck in an effort to keep the driver from fleeing.
The incident reportedly started as a police chase but it was unclear what prompted the pursuit.
Drivers in the area were being urged to find alternate routes. No injuries were reported.
