Queensland, AUSTRALIA — Police said someone noticed the device, which was about 20cm long and appeared to be made from PVC piping, on the footpath outside Thabeban Primary School yesterday.

An “exclusion zone” was put into place and the device was guarded by police until officers from the Explosive Ordinance Response Team arrived about 1am today.

They destroyed the device by controlled detonation about 5am.

Bundaberg Inspector Kev Guteridge said the incident was concerning but not related to terrorism.

“I can safely say that the discovery of this explosive device is in no way linked to terrorism,” he said.
