LOS ANGELES — A 33-year-old man was charged with killing a 17-year-old girl and injuring a man in a shooting on Hollywood and Highland.
Ramon Roque Monreal, of El Paso, TX faces one count each of murder and attempted murder.
On July 26, Monreal reportedly pulled out a handgun during a confrontation while in a crowd for an alleged illegal street race, prosecutors said. When people in the crowd attempted to disarm the defendant, Monreal allegedly shot multiple times, injuring a man and killing Alejandra Estrada, prosecutors added.
Bail is scheduled at $5 million. The defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 80 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Hollywood Division.
