NEW YORK — On March 14, 2016, at approximately 10:33 AM, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in Ray Brook received a report of a missing fisherman on Union Falls Pond. The caller reported that on Sunday March 13, 2016, 59 year-old, Gregory N. Manchester, from the Town of Franklin, drove his UTV out on to the ice on Union Falls Pond to go fishing.

Forest Rangers and New York State Police Aviation responded to the area to look for Manchester. Aviation spotted a partially submerged UTV on Union Falls Pond. Forest Rangers found foot prints on the shoreline coming from the area where the UTV had gone through the ice and leading to a seasonal cabin. As the Forest Rangers looked around the cabin they found a male subject lying on the floor of the cabin that was later identified as Manchester.

Forest Rangers found Manchester to be unresponsive and suffering from severe hypothermia. Life saving measures were performed at the scene and while being transported by Saranac Lake EMS to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
