This morning, an individual attempted to carry out an attack in New York City, injuring himself and three others, according to initial reports. This attack is the second in New York and the third on mass transit this year.

The attack occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. local time, when Akayed Ullah detonated an improvised explosive device near the A train platform under the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City. Authorities arrested Ullah and the investigation remains ongoing.

In September, an ISIS sympathizer placed an improvised explosive device on the London Underground, injuring 30. In June, authorities thwarted an attempted bombing attack targeting the Brussels Central Station.

In late November, an ISIS supporter distributed a picture encouraging an attack in New York City’s Times Square during the Christmas season. This image circulated on pro-ISIS Telegram channels and chat groups. Additionally, ISIS and al-Qa’ida affiliated groups have previously published articles on improvised explosive devices in English-language propaganda magazines.
