TUCSON — On December 23, 2017, around 4:30 a.m., officers from Operations Division South and members of the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) responded to a report of an unconscious pregnant female in a residence located within the 1500 block of West Calle Guadalajara. Upon arrival, officers observed the victim with obvious gunshot trauma. TFD personnel rendered aid and transported her to a local-area hospital. Shortly after arrival, she was sadly pronounced deceased. She has been identified as 19-year-old Jasmine Vega. Next of kin has been notified.

Vega was approximately six months pregnant. Hospital staff were able to successfully deliver her unborn child, who is currently being treated at the hospital.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Department’s Gang Unit responded to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that Vega, along with several other people, were asleep inside the residence at the time of the incident. Others were awoken to Vega screaming and she later became unresponsive. They called 911 and when officers arrived on-scene, they observed several projectile holes in the walls of the residence. Additional evidence indicated that multiple shots were fired towards the residence from the exterior. Detectives are investigating whether the gunfire targeted specific individuals inside the residence. The other occupants were not injured in the incident.

At this time, there are no suspects in custody.
