Florida Mother Arrested In Cocaine-Related Death of 2-Month-Old Baby

TAMPA — On October 16th, Megan Rand was arrested and charged with Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child after her 2-month-old son died within her care.

On April 24, 2018 at 2:25 a.m., deputies responded to an unresponsive child, Brennen Rand, at 9715 Long Meadow Dr. in Tampa. Rand was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. A search of the residence led detectives to find several items of drug paraphernalia and narcotics usage within close proximity of the victim.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be “diffuse pulmonary hemorrhage with hypothermia due to cocaine exposure.” The investigation led to the arrest of 34-year-old Megan Rand, the victim’s mother.

She was arrested on October 16th and booked into Orient Road Jail.
