KNOXVILLE – (TBI) — Special Agents with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation have obtained indictments for a LaFollette man, charging him with the attempted second degree murder of a Campbell County deputy.

At the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler, TBI Special Agents began investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 26th at the intersection of 25W and Habersham Road in LaFollette. During the course of the investigation, Agents learned that in the early morning hours of July 26th, deputies with the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of a disturbance at the home belonging to the parents of 41-year-old Donnie Ledford.

As deputies approached the home, Ledford pointed a revolver at a deputy before fleeing the residence. Agents developed information that later that day, a deputy observed Ledford running behind a vehicle at Habersham Road. When the deputy asked Ledford for his identification, Ledford produced a gun and pointed it at the deputy. The deputy fired two shots at Ledford, striking him at least once. Ledford was transported to the hospital for treatment. A revolver was recovered at the scene.

Today, the Campbell County Grand Jury returned indictments charging Ledford with one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder, one count of Aggravated Assault, one count of Employing a Firearm during Commission of a Dangerous Felony and one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, charges related to the officer-involved shooting incident. Ledford was booked into the Campbell County Jail on a $500,000 bond. He also faces two counts of Aggravated Assault related to the incident that was presented to the Grand Jury by the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office.
