WATERLOO, Iowa — On July 28th, 2015 Waterloo Police Officers responded to George Wyth State Park on a report of an injured female on the trail near the campground. The female was semi-conscious, covered in dirt and blood. The female, identified as Jane Doe, reported that she was jogging on the trail when a white male came up from behind her and hit her in the head. The male continued to punch her several times in the head and face until she lost consciousness. Jane Doe was taken to Allen Hospital where she was treated for her injuries, including a broken nose, broken/chipped teeth and other injuries consistent with an assault.
A thorough examination was conducted at the hospital and several pieces of forensic evidence were submitted to the State Crime Lab for processing. On March 5th, 2019 Waterloo Police were notified by the State Lab, that a sample that recently had been entered into CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) was a match for DNA recovered during the examination. The sample entered into CODIS was determined to belong to Patrick Richard Burt age 24.
On March 11th, 2019 an arrest warrant was obtained for Patrick R. Burt charging him Willful Injury, a class C Felony. Waterloo Investigators with the assistance of the Aurora, Colorado Police Department located and arrested Patrick Burt in Aurora without incident.
Patrick Burt lived in the Waterloo area at the time of the assault, and currently resides in Colorado. Burt will be held in Colorado on $500,000 bond, pending extradition to Black Hawk County.
