On Monday, the suspect was arrested in San Jose and subsequently booked into Santa Clara County Jail for murder.

NBC Bay Area reported: Sources tell us there were at least six prior occasions when Carranza was arrested, and immigration agents filed a detainer asking to be notified if he was set to be released. On all six occasions, two in Los Angeles and Four in Santa Clara County, Carranza was released without anyone notifying ICE – as is often the policy with sanctuary cities and counties.

Carranza was diagnosed with psychosis back in 2016, according to a source. He also has a number of convictions in Santa Clara County, including kidnapping, burglary, domestic violence, prowling, trespassing, false imprisonment and battery to an officer.

A motive for the crime remains unknown.
