Police Arrest Vermont Man Following ‘Suspicious Death’ of Girlfriend

PROCTOR, VT — The Vermont State Police have arrested Anthony Reynolds, 48, of Pittsford in connection with the death of Melanie Rooney, 31.

Reynolds is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, first degree aggravated domestic assault, second degree aggravated domestic assault, grossly negligent operation of a vehicle, and accidents-duty to stop.

Investigators say that Reynolds and Rooney were in a relationship, and during the evening prior to her death, a dispute occurred between the two in Rutland City. Hours later, Reynolds allegedly struck Rooney with his vehicle in the roadway at the end of her driveway, located at 13 Market Street, Proctor, causing her death.

Reynolds was ordered jailed without bail pending arraignment, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2019, at Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, in Rutland. He is currently being held at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility.
