On Sunday, President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency for Mississippi, which allows federal funding to be accessible to Carroll, Humphreys, Monroe, and Sharkey counties. These areas were severely affected by a deadly tornado that swept through the Mississippi Delta on Friday night.

The massive storm caused at least 26 fatalities in Mississippi and Alabama and left dozens of others injured.

Search and rescue teams were sifting through the rubble of destroyed homes, commercial buildings, and public offices after hundreds of people were forced to evacuate.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell are set to visit Mississippi on Sunday to evaluate the destruction.
