NYPD officer inadvertently shoots U.S. marshal in Jersey City

On Thursday morning around 6:30, members of the NYPD Warrant Division were conducting a joint operation with U.S. Marshals to apprehend a wanted subject in 9 Bayview Avenue in Jersey City, New Jersey.

While attempting to take the subject into custody a NYPD detective discharged his firearm five times at an aggressive pit bull that was attacking a U.S. Marshal. During this incident, in which the dog was killed, a US Marshal was also struck in the foot by a discharged bullet.

The U.S. Marshal was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injuries.

The NYPD Force Investigation Division is conducting a review of the incident in conjunction with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
