Prodigy of Mobb Deep fame has died in Las Vegas at the age of 42.
Prodigy’s spokesperson told TMZ he was hospitalized “a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth.”
Born in Hempstead, New York as Albert Johnson, Prodigy became a member of the duo Mobb Deep.
He came from a musical family—his grandfather, Budd Johnson, and his great-uncle Keg Johnson are remembered for their contributions to the Bebop era of jazz. His mother, Fatima Johnson, was a member of The Crystals.
