Hitchins, Kentucky – The Kentucky State Police, Ashland Post was called just after 12:28 PM on Monday, December 24, 2018, following a shooting which occurred inside a residence on Winding Way, in the Hitchins community of Carter County. Troopers responded and made entry into the house to find two people, one male and one female, with single gunshot wounds to the head.

The investigation indicated that Billy Suttles, age 54, of Grayson, was involved in a domestic violence incident with his live-in girlfriend, Rebecca Lancaster, 49, also of Grayson, when he retrieved a .25 caliber handgun and shot her one time in the head. Evidence suggests Suttles then turned the gun on himself. Rebecca Lancaster was pronounced deceased at the scene by Carter County Coroner William Waddell, whereas Suttles was transported to Saint Mary’s Trauma Center in Huntington, West Virginia, where he eventually succumbed to his injury.

The investigation is ongoing by Kentucky State Police Detective Sam Lawson, who was assisted by other KSP personnel, Carter County EMS, Carter County Sheriff’s Department and the Carter County Coroner’s Office.
