Killing Triggers Wild Crime Spree, Chaotic Gun Battle In Washington

Puyallup, WA — (Video report attached) — Puyallup Police: On Tuesday, at approximately 2:33 Police Officers responded to the 500 blk of 14 ST SW for reports of shots fired. Numerous citizens called 911 reporting shots being fired and a subject firing a gun in the area.

It appears the suspect was prowling a vehicle in the 500 blk of 14 ST SW when he was confronted by the vehicle owner. The vehicle owner, a 71 year old City resident confronted the suspect and was immediately shot by the suspect.

The suspect then fled southbound where he fired at a family in the area of 14 ST SW and 6 AVE SW. The suspect then tried to steal a car in the 1300 blk of 6 AVE SW- but was not successful. The suspect then fled that area and fired again at teenagers on a porch in the 1300 blk of 6 AVE SW.

The suspect then entered a home in the 600 blk of 13 ST SW and stole a white SUV by driving the vehicle through the garage door.

The suspect was continually firing at PPD officers during the pursuit. The suspect encountered another PPD officer at 15 AVE SW and Fairview DR where the suspect immediately fired upon that officer. That officer continued to pursue the suspect northbound on Fairview DR where the suspect crashed into citizens at the intersection of 9 AVE SW and Fairview DR SW.

The suspect exited his vehicle. A detective fired at the suspect and a PPD officer hit the suspect with his vehicle to disable the suspect from further assault. The suspect was then taken into custody.

There are 8 different crimes scenes were are processing, multiple witnesses, and a lot of forensic work that will occur tonight.

Citizens who witnessed the incident today and who have not yet spoke with an officer or detective are asked to call the PPD Tip Line at 253-770-3343.

A community meeting will be held tomorrow night at 7 PM at Aylen Junior High to brief the community on the incident, update the investigation status, and provide grief support information to impacted residents.
Again, this is preliminary information for the community and will likely be refined as the investigation continues tonight.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the 71 year old victim tonight who was killed in this senseless tragedy.
