LA Gang Members Arrested For Murder and Attempted Murder at Homeless Encampment

CALIFORNIA — Los Angeles Police Department, Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives were assigned to investigative the murder of Daniel Duarte, and the attempted murder of a 34-year-old male.

On January 21, 2018, around 4:40 a.m., Hollenbeck Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of a man yelling for help in the 300 block of Avenue 57. Officers arrived and found the 34-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds. The male told the officer that his friend, Daniel Duarte was also shot and directed the officers to his location.

Officers conducted a search of the area and found Duarte shot dead inside of his tent, which was located on the embankment of the Arroyo Seco flood control channel near the Pasadena Freeway and Avenue 52.

On February 2, 2018, detectives arrested 19-year-old Andrew Palacios, at his residence.

Detectives followed up on additional leads subsequently to Palacios’ arrest and identified Jimmy Alfred Perez as the second suspect.

On March 15, 2018, detectives conducted a surveillance operation and arrested 31-year-old Jimmy Alfred Perez, near his residence without incident.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Andrew Palacios and Jimmy Alfred Perez with murder and attempted murder.

Palacios and Perez who are affiliated with a street gang are in custody and being held on $2,000,000 bail.

Police did not reveal any possible motive or relation between the suspects and the victims.
