Man, 24, Killed Family at North Carolina Home Before Being Fatally Shot By Deputies, Officials Say

YANCEY COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina man is dead after officials say he murdered his parents and his sister Monday.

“Just after 4:30 pm, Yancey County Deputies were dispatched to a report of shots fired inside a residence,” the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “While en route to the location dispatch advised deputies, there was a report of one person with a gunshot wound. After the deputies arrival more shots were fired. The suspect was shot by Deputies during the incident. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. When deputies were able to get inside the residence, they found three people deceased.”

No deputies were injured during the incident.

The suspect was identified as Travis Caleb Woody, 24. The victims are Herman Myron Woody, 57; Sheila McCurry Woody, 52 and Chelsey Lanay Woody, 28.

A motive for the shooting was unknown.
