SACRAMENTO, CA — Yesterday afternoon, Roseville Police Department detectives arrested a 21-year-old Sacramento man who is suspected of contacting an 8-year-old girl via Snapchat and asking her to meet with him to have sex.

On January 1, a mother contacted Roseville Police about finding inappropriate Snapchat messages on her daughter’s cell phone. Detectives investigated and found that over the previous week, a then-unidentified adult male had sent the girl sexually explicit photos, had asked her to send him nude photos of herself, and had proposed meeting with her to have sex. Police say it was apparent from the conversations that the male knew the victim’s age.

During the investigation, a Roseville Police detective contacted the suspect over Snapchat, posing as the victim, and arranged to meet him for sexual activity. On the afternoon of January 2, the suspect showed up at the agreed-upon location in Sacramento, thinking he was going to meet with the underage victim, and instead was met by Roseville detectives.

The detectives arrested 21-year-old Gilberto Garcia-Bejarano of Sacramento on suspicion of sending and soliciting sexually explicit material from a minor, attempting to contact a minor for sexual purposes, and possessing false immigration documents. He is now in custody in the South Placer Jail.
