LOS ANGELES — A 23-year-old man has been charged with the capital murder of his girlfriend’s estranged wife in Granada Hills.

Javier Flores, 24, of Simi Valley faces one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait and allegations of using a handgun.

Flores is charged with killing Cheyenne Brown, 23, as she arrived home on July 22, the prosecutor said.

“Brown had arrived home from work … when she was gunned down next to her vehicle,” a Los Angeles Police Department statement said. “Witnesses described a full-size truck fleeing the location after the shooting. Brown left behind a two-year-old daughter.”

A motive for the killing was not disclosed.

Flores faces death or life in prison without parole if convicted as charged. A decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date. Flores is being held without bail.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
