Baltimore — Samuel Beverly was convicted of sexual child abuse, sex offense in the third degree, and assault in the second degree after he was arrested for raping his ex-girlfriend’s 10-year-old daughter. Assistant State’s Attorney Stacie Sawyer prosecuted the case.

On or about May 9, 2017, Beverly picked up the daughter of his ex-girlfriend from aftercare. After signing her out of the program, Beverly asked the 10-year-old girl if she wanted something to eat. She responded that she did. Beverly then drove to an alley behind a fast food restaurant on Boston Street, where he got into the back seat of the car with the child and raped her.

After the attack, he told the victim that if she told anyone about what happened he would hurt her mother. The victim did not immediately report the crime because she feared for her mother’s safety.

She eventually came forward about two weeks after the attack, when she went to a counselor at her aftercare program to ask for advice on how to report the attack to her mother. The counselor helped the victim tell her mother what had happened when her mother came to pick her up. The attack was then reported to the Baltimore Police Department.

“Unfortunately, this young woman experienced something she likely will never forget—but she was brave enough to speak up and seek justice, and I am glad we were able to deliver it to her by convicting her attacker,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby.

Beverly is facing 45 years in prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 5, 2018.
