A man fell to his death after stepping on a cellar grate in Brooklyn.
The man, who cops estimated to be in his 30s, was walking on Bedford Avenue near Herkimer Street at 3 p.m.
The metal doors leading to the basement of an abandoned building collapsed under him as he took a step.
“The thing just opened. He was walking. He wasn’t paying attention. The thing is loose. And he disappeared,” said McCray, 50, who added that the victim lived in a nearby shelter.
The city had already received 40 complaints for defective sidewalk cellar doors in 2014. It has received 19 so far in 2015.
