Virginia Beach, Va. – Corey Antoine Anderson, 33, of the 500 block of Birmingham Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia, was sentenced Wednesday on charges of aggravated malicious wounding, malicious wounding, unlawful wounding, and two counts of use of a firearm.
Circuit Court Judge Steven C. Frucci sentenced Anderson to 63 years in prison with 39 years suspended, leaving 24 years to serve. This sentence was above the high-end of the Virginia State Sentencing Guidelines, which recommended a sentence of no more than twenty (20) years.
Anderson pled guilty on June 9, 2021.
Prosecutors say that just before 2 a.m. on November 3, 2019, Corey Antoine Anderson shot three people outside of Vibes Restaurant and Lounge on N. Great Neck Road. Initially he had parked his vehicle in front of the entrance to Vibes and blasted loud music. Due to a recent noise complaint that police responded to at Vibes, employees and patrons asked Anderson to turn down the music. An argument ensued which turned into a physical fight. Security broke up the fight and people began to walk away. Anderson retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and fired five shots into a crowd of people in the parking lot.
A sergeant from the Virginia Beach Police Department was parked nearby and heard gunshots. When she responded to the scene, she found a male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Additional police units arrived and located a female with gunshot wounds to her back and a male with a gunshot wound to his leg. All three victims were taken to the hospital and survived.
Anderson was apprehended at his home several hours later. In an interview with police, he denied shooting anyone.
Anderson has a prior conviction for Petit Larceny.
