GASTONIA, NC – At approximately 7:51 p.m. on November 17, GPD officers responded to Wendy’s restaurant located at 1510 E. Franklin Boulevard for the report of a dispute between a customer in a car at the drive-thru window and an employee at Wendy’s.
While on the way to the call, officers were told that the driver of the car had a handgun and was now driving around the parking lot of Wendy’s and refusing to leave the area.
When officers arrived, they found the car still in the parking lot and identified the driver as a 35-year-old man from Gastonia.
Officers spoke with an employee at Wendy’s who told them that the man was upset that he didn’t get any sauce with his meal. The man began arguing with the employee, pulled out a handgun, and threatened to shoot the employee. The employee closed the drive-thru window, and immediately called 9-1-1.
Officers who were talking to the man in the parking lot recovered a handgun from the man’s pants pocket and determined the gun had been reported stolen in Mecklenburg County.
The man was arrested and charged with communicating a threat and possessing a stolen handgun. He was released after posting a $2,500 bond.
