CALIFORNIA — A 26-year-old man today was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for the beating death of an elderly Glendale man, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

James Adrian Sanchez of El Cajon pleaded no contest on Oct. 19, 2017, to one count of second-degree murder.

On Nov. 18, 2013, Sanchez broke into the apartment of 84-year-old Ruben Sanchez and killed him by striking him multiple times with a hammer, according to evidence presented at the preliminary hearing.

KTLA reported: The victim was the killer’s uncle’s grandfather.

The 84-year-old man was killed days after a fight between James Sanchez and his fiancee that prompted the couple to move out of the apartment they shared with the victim.
