Southeast Baltimore — Jeremiah Savage was sentenced to 25 years in prison, suspend all but 10 years, after being convicted of two counts of assault, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of a regulated firearm after a disqualifying conviction, and unlawful possession of a short barreled shotgun in February.

Savage is the father of the victim’s unborn child. At the time of the incident, the victim was seven months pregnant, and Savage was living with her.

On October 20, 2016, Savage became angry after the victim told him he could not use her car that day. The victim reported that the defendant pulled out a gun during the incident, laid it on the dresser table, and made threats to the victim. The argument escalated and Savage began to strangle the victim. The victim then lost consciousness.

When the victim woke up, she was on the floor. The victim reported that the last thing she remembered was the defendant strangling her and her feet being off the ground as he did so. The victim had minor injuries to her neck consistent with strangulation.

While speaking with police, the victim stated that the defendant had a gun in the house and gave police permission to search the home. During the search, officers recovered a sawed off shotgun in a book bag by the washer. The shotgun was loaded with two shells.

Savage was arrested at the scene.

Savage was convicted in 2014 of conspiracy to commit robbery. In 2010, as well as 2013, he was convicted of second degree assault. Savage, at the time of the assault in the case above, was on probation in Howard County for a robbery conspiracy conviction.

“Mr. Savage has a long history of violence — and I’m saddened that he would go so far as to assault the woman carrying his child,” said State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. “I hope that this sentence allows the victim some time to heal her emotional and physical wounds, and care for her child in peace. Harassment, threats and violence of any kind perpetrated by domestic abusers will not be tolerated by this office.”
