Man Used Social Media To Threaten To Kill Police Officers

Ontario, Canada — A 23-year-old Oshawa man is charged with posting online threats to kill police officers and breaching the conditions of his release.

Between August 3, 2015, and August 15, 2015, the suspect posted messages online that made specific threats to officers who had previous dealings with the suspect. The suspect described how a home-made bomb would be thrown at police if attempts were made to arrest him.

On Monday, August 17, 2015, officers arrested the suspect as he fled his residence.

The suspect had previously been arrested on July 31, 2015, for failing to comply with his probation order.

Thomas HELMLE, age 23, of Cherrydown Drive in Oshawa, is charged with: Utter Threats; Fail to Comply with Undertaking x2; and Breach Probation Order x4. He was held for a bail hearing.
