Maryland Homeowner Opens Fire on Car Burglars

MARYLAND — Detectives with the Montgomery County Police – 4th District Investigative Section are investigating the report of a theft from a vehicle that occurred yesterday morning on Rossiter Court. During the reported theft, a resident shot an 18-year-old male suspect. The male suspect and two additional juvenile male suspects fled from the area after the shooting but were later located by police.

On Wednesday, January 3 at approximately 3:18 a.m., 4th District officers responded to the area of the 14000 block of Twig Road for the report of a theft from a vehicle. While looking for the suspects, officers were flagged down by a resident on Rossiter Court who was also reporting a theft from a vehicle. The resident stated to officers that he was armed with a handgun, had confronted the three suspects, and fired several shots at them. The resident provided a description of the suspects to officers and further stated that the three suspects fled from the area after he had fired shots at them. The resident turned over his handgun to officers.

A short time later, the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1) received a call for the report of a shooting victim in the 1300 block of Elm Grove Circle. Responding officers located the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his lower body. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers determined that he was one of the suspects who the resident on Rossiter Court had fired shots upon. One of the additional juvenile suspects was located by police at this location. Officers located the second juvenile suspect on Good Hope Road. Thus far two juvenile suspects have been charged with theft related offenses.
