Newburyport, MASS. — At 2:25 a.m. Monday, 15-year-old Shantel Van Voorhis took her 4 month old son, Jacob Van Voorhis, from DARE Family services in Newburyport where they were both residing. Shantel left without Jacob’s antibiotic for an ear infection, and he is on special soy formula. It is unknown if the child had a baby seat and she left his diaper bag behind.
Shantel has ties to Holyoke and Springfield, MA. She might be in the company of Jonathan Heredia.
On Tuesday, Baby Jacob was turned over to the DCF in Springfield by a member of Shantel’s biological family. He was unharmed.
The Honda CRV being sought in connection with the search for four-month-old Jacob Van Voorhis and his mother, Shantel Van Voorhis has been located in Springfield.
The investigation into the whereabouts of Shantel is active.
Shantel Van Voorhis is described as 5’9” tall and approximately 180 lbs. She is biracial, Hispanic and white, with long, curly brown hair and hazel eyes.
Jacob Van Voorhis is 20 ½” tall and approximately 9 lbs., with brown skin, brown hair, and brown eyes.
Jacob is in legal custody of the Department of Children and Families. Shantel was allowed to reside with the baby while at the DARE facility.
