Mississippi man, 28, learns punishment for sexual assault of 2-year-old which caused her death

Jackson, Miss. – A Tucker, Mississippi man was sentenced Tuesday to 37 years in federal prison for the sexual assault and murder of a child on the Choctaw Indian Reservation.

According to court documents and statements in open court, on June 8, 2019, Brett K. Hickman, 27, “physically and sexually abused a two-year-old child who lived at his home in the Tucker Community of the Choctaw Indian Reservation which resulted in the death of the child.”

Hickman pled guilty in U.S. District Court on July 13, 2021.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Choctaw Police Department investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin J. Payne prosecuted.
