3 dead in Tennessee murder-suicide after 97-year-old ‘begs for her life,’ police say

WEST NASHVILLE — Detectives are investigating this afternoon’s domestic-related double murder-suicide at a home on Cana Circle in which a 65-year-old woman fatally wounded her 97-year-old mother and her 68-year-old sister before shooting herself. All three women died of gunshot wounds to their chests.

The deceased are identified as Rachel Andrews, 97, and Barbara Andrews, 68, who lived at the Cana Circle residence. The shooter is identified as Gail Andrews Miller, 65, who lived on Sneed Road.

The Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call at 2:05 p.m. during which the operator heard an apparent exchange between Rachel Andrews and Gail Miller. A voice believed to have been Rachel Andrews is heard saying, “Please don’t kill me.” A voice believed to have been Gail Miller is heard saying, “I have to. Hang the phone up. Momma hang the phone up.”

The first officer was on the scene within minutes. Gail Miller was found at the front of the house wounded, but still showing signs of life. A revolver was next to her. She died before the ambulance arrived. Rachel and Barbara Andrews were found in a TV room at the rear of the residence. Both had been shot while seated. Barbara Andrews died at the scene. Rachel Andrews was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.

A suicide note and a holster for the pistol were found at Miller’s Sneed Road residence. In it, she asked for forgiveness for what she was doing. Miller’s apparent belief that her medical condition was deteriorating may have influenced her
