Mother: School Bus Driver Asked Children ‘Are Y’all You Ready To Die?’ Before Crash

TENNESSEE — Chattanooga school bus driver Johnthony Walker asked elementary students if they were ‘ready to die’ before a fatal crash that killed five children Monday afternoon, this according to a mother of one of the children on-board.

“My daughter said right before the bus flipped that he was speeding around the curve and asked them, ‘Are y’all ready to die?’” Jasmine Mateen told CBS News.

Three of Mateen’s children were on the bus—-her daughter died in the crash.

Chattanooga police said Tuesday the 24-year-old bus driver was speeding, lost control, hit a mailbox, swerved and overturned before hitting a telephone pole and a tree.

The bus was transporting children from Woodmore Elementary School.

Walker has been arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.
