NEW YORK — A 32-year-old motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a NYPD Emergency Service Unit truck in Manhattan.

On Monday, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of East 96th Street and Park Avenue, within the confines of the 19th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed the motorcycle operator lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma about the body. EMS responded to the location and transported the motorcyclist to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

EMS also transported his 32-year-old female passenger to New York Cornell Medical Center in stable condition. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that the motorcyclist, operating a 2015 TRI motorcycle, was traveling southbound on Park Avenue, approaching the East 96th Street intersection, at the same time a NYPD ESU Truck #2 (Ford F-550) vehicle was traveling eastbound on East 96th Street with lights and sirens approaching the Park Avenue intersection. The motorcyclist struck the driver’s side portion of the ESU vehicle, causing the operator and passenger to become ejected from the motorcycle and come to a rest on the roadway.

The collision is being investigated by NYPD’s Force Investigation Division.
