NASHVILLE — North Precinct detectives charged TSU student George Wells Jr., 18, with reckless homicide for Sunday’s fatal shooting of fellow student Rickey Scott, 19, inside Watson Hall dormitory where both men lived.

Scott was transported from the dorm to Centennial Medical Center by ambulance for what was initially thought to have been a non-trauma related medical issue. The gunshot wound was found during the exam at Centennial. Police were notified for the first time then. Scott was transferred to Skyline Medical Center where he died.

Although Wells was interviewed by detectives Sunday, the circumstances surrounding the shooting remained unclear. During a second interview late today, Wells admitted to bringing what he believed to have been a pellet gun onto campus, handling it inside Scott’s dorm room and pulling the trigger. Wells acknowledged that he knew the weapon had fired and that Scott was hit.
