NASHVILLE — Sex Crimes detectives Thursday night charged 17-year-old Kequan Waller with aggravated robbery and attempted aggravated rape for his stranger assault on a 24-year-old woman in the elevator breezeway of her Walden Village Lane apartment building in South Nashville just after midnight Wednesday.

Waller is being held at juvenile detention.

Waller was taken into custody by East Precinct officers Thursday near Cayce public housing in relation to a stolen delivery van that was recovered on S. 5th Street. He had already been identified as a suspect in the aggravated robbery/attempted rape case as well as other crimes.

In Wednesday morning’s incident, Waller is accused of pulling a knife on the victim just after she arrived at her apartment complex. She said he threatened to kill her if she did not surrender her purse and phone. She said he removed part of her clothing during the encounter, but stopped before actually sexually assaulting her. Waller fled in a Chevrolet Impala that was stolen last Sunday from a downtown hotel.

At the time of his arrest Thursday, Waller was carrying property of the apartment complex victim as well as a knife fitting the description of the one given by her.

Waller remains under investigation for other recent crimes. Additional charges against him are expected.

Anyone with information about illegal activity connected to Waller is asked to contact the police department’s Sex Crimes Unit at 615-862-7540.
