FORT DETRICK, Maryland — A suspect is dead and two people were wounded Tuesday morning after an active shooter incident that ended at Fort Detrick.
Fort Detrick Police fatally shot the armed gunman, who was identified as Fantahun Woldesenbet.
After a shooting incident off post at a business park complex, where two people were shot, police say Woldesenbet breached the Nalin Pond gate located off of Opposumtown Pike. Woldesenbet was shot, and medical lifesaving procedures were initiated. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Video tweeted by FOX 5 DC’s Stephanie Ramirez shows one of the bloodied victims walking into a business searching for help. The employees at Nicolock paving locked the doors after the victim entered and called police.

“Our number one priority is the safety of our people,” said U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick Commander Col. Dexter Nunnally. “Our emergency responders are well trained for these types of situations and the fast response of our military police enabled us to contain this threat quickly.”
Fort Detrick Shooting UPDATE: One of the shooter’s two victims was released from the hospital this afternoon; while the other Sailor remains in critical condition.

Fort Detrick and local law enforcement are continuing to investigate–a motive remains unknown.
